The Zippers 575 cams are by far the best bang for the $$$ on the S.E. 103 engines. I had a 10 lb. ft. and 8 hp. increase just off installing thoseand that is with 2-2 big radius. It would be even better with a 2-1 pipe. Forget S.E. cams. The zippers camsbumps up thecompression which this motor needs badly!
You will have a little valve train noise as mentioned above when hot, but not when cold. It's really not very noticable.
Adjustable push rods are an easy install and will not cost you very much to have done.
I have the Freedom 14, gear drive cams, which are not that radical, and freedom true duel exhaust, dyno'ed at 103 hp, and 112 torque.
With the same set up I have power commander, stage one etc. i know others with the 103 that after freedom cams where installed, got even higher numbers than me on HP and torque. 105 hp and 117 torque in a few cases. regardless, screw MoCo cams of any kind. Zippers or Freedoms.
Screw SE Cams?
Give me a break.
SE cams ane produced by Competition Cams inc.
When you buy cams, you are buying a grind.
First, you need to do some research.
Decide on what kind of power and where in the RPM range you want the sweet spot to be. Remember, there is no perfect grind. To strengthen one RPM spot, you will weaken another RPM spot.
I have the Ultra 103 SE from 2006, does anyone know if my bike also has the 253 cams?
Yes, all the 103's use the same cam.
By far, the Zippers 575 or the Freedom YB14SE cams give you the most bang for the buck in a 103, without modifications to the heads. In fact, if you modify the heads, neither of these cams are recommended, as they are designed for the stock heads/compression. I have friends who are running 115-118 TQ and 105-108 HP with just the cam change added to an already present good pipe/AC combo. The Zippers come in at about 2500 and the Freedoms about 3K with corresponding drops at 4K and 4.5K. Of course, they make the top HP at the rev limit.
