Im going to try and static time the 1974 1200. With the timing mark in the inspection hole, I am going to rotate the plate until the plugs just fire. I may try with a test light across the coil as well. One thing I have noticed however is there is no counterweights under the Dyna S module. do these ignitions modules not use an advance or do I not need to worry about it given im using the advance mark?
I do mine by turning the advance unit, just like points..with the line [or lazy-8] in the hole I want the plug[s] to fire at the furthest most point of the mechanical advance, travel...Woks good enough to never require more than 2 kicks on my '74...
Racepres, if im understanding this correctly, all I have to do is put the advance mark in the center of the hole and turn the dyna s module mounted on the plate by loosening the two stand off screws until the plugs just fire?

until the plugs just fire? When you turn the advance mechanism to full advance!
That is Correct. Remember you are trying to set the timing at Full Advance [hence the advance mark] Right!
Just Like Points...
Edit; Remember that once "fired" you may need to move the pickup a ways away from the Rotor to "Reset" the iggy.
I always start with the plate at Wayyyy too much Retard, and bring it Back to Fire.
But, Cycling the Ignition switch [or kill] will generally get you there [reset] also.
