Engine Vin Question
Quick question... just bought a 76 shovel today and the frame vin matches the title but the engine vin is in a totally different format.. trying to make sure I'm looking in the right place
Frame starts 2A and ends H6
The engine vin is 16558-66
any help would be appreciated

On a 76 the VIN on the frame should match the motor if the motor is original to the bike. The VIN on the motor is located on the right front of the motor in front of the pushrod tappet blocks. The number you list looks more like a part number than a VIN. The important number is the frame matching the title. Motors can be replaced.

Unfortunately I do not but we can use another pic/model since the VIN will be in the same location. This of a 75 FXE
You are looking at the right side of the bike. You have a front and rear cylinder. You have pushrods (four of them; two intake and two exhaust) that go from the rocker covers to the tappet blocks on top of the right side of the engine cases (above the cone which houses the points and gets you into the cam chest). In front of the front tappet block, on the case there will be a vin number like pictured in my previous post.
Stay away from sandpaper. Get some Acetone or MEK. It will cut through paint easier and not look like your numbers have been tampered with.
