Default 67 shovel shifting problems

I took off the primary and removed the clutch plates, cleaned them, then put them back on. The problem is now when I shift, the pin holding the shifter in place snaps. It never used to do this before. I tighten the bolts on the shifter as tight as I can but the pin keeps snapping. Any hints?

the bolts are too long and its right at this time is desired to slide back and forth - add some washers to teach of the 3 bolts

Default 67 shifting problem

I was not very clear. It is my foot shifter that is causing the problem. There is a bolt that tightens it down and a pin that keeps it in place. The peg coming out of the primary is smooth so the bolt tightens the foot shifter and the pin keeps the foot shifter in place. The pin keeps snapping and it never used to.
