FYI, the FX/E and the FLH frame were exactly the same in 1975. The weakest part on those (IMO anyway) are the forks. The front end used were from the XL/H models and I always thought the forks could use more beef on them.

Stock configuration would look like this...

^^ Beautiful example right there...
Is that an earlier pipe tho?

The forks were marginal '71-'72, IMO, but, I never had any problems with 35mm forks right up to the '80's!
I like Light bikes..and I don't "canyon carve" anyway

75 was the last year this style of exhaust came as an option. There was another 2-1 exhaust option for 75-76 as well as the staggered duals.

Weak frames, man I get a laugh every time I hear it the old frames were hell bent for stout compared to the beer can frames harley uses today , you had to seriously abuse one to tweak it and as was mentioned the only weak spot on them was were the center down tube is welded to cast motor/trans mount. If the bike been abused or the motor or trans ran loose they can crack at that weld, not that common but does happen and it's a simple fix without a full tear down.

I think that review in the article was from a biased anti H-D reviewer. Also remember in the AMF years, bashing was all the reviewers did.
