Default new ignition question

Amazon Amazon

This is the ignition I bought for my ironhead a couple years ago and it has run great since. I did not use the plug wires, I wasnt a big fan of them.

I am thinking of using it for my shovelhead, which is '76, and looking for advise on it. Also my ironhead is electric start only and shovel is electric /kick.

thanks

I use Single Fire on DragBikes or Bikes with Dual Plugs...
Otherwise... No
If it worked on an Ironhead, it will work Equally well on a Shovel...
Identical in every way... Except the Ironhead will Smoke the Shovel!!!!
No Matter the Ignition!!!

that ignition is a good one it is import but its been a go to by us for years

just so you know some of the coils work for ever the rest 2 weeks or when ever your 100 miles from home then you can count on it failing

A few months ago I put one of those on my 76 FLH in single fire mode.

I wish I had gone to single fire 20 years ago. It starts easier both electric and kick, idles and runs a little smoother as well.

I've heard the same thing about the coil John. Isn't it a copy of a Dyna or Crane that can be easily substituted for it?

I was thinking of buying the real thing to be safe but can't remember the vendor/part number.

So... you attribute that to Single Fire????
I Call BS... it is simply more properly setup!!
Single fire been around for much more than 40 years... I have done it many times... Your experience just may be an anomoly!!!

I ain't sayin he's got to do it, I'm just sayin how it worked out for me.

If there was no advantage at all to single fire ignitions then I would suspect that nobody would invest in manufacturing them.

I have found in the 2 weeks I am doing this the single fire verses the duel fire is like what oil you Think is better

in the mid 60s Harley panhead has a duel point set and twin coils make it a factory single fire

in the 70s while racing and MSD came along we paired the two ( the MSD did not need the dwell that a coil only ignition needs ) so we ground the larger lobe off a sporty dist and with a degree wheel we set the second set of points at rear cylinder timing

at that time we were drag racing gas powered 96 inch iron heads for the most part

on a dyno many years later as the early dynos only gave you an effort reading nothing else - we looked again at what it does and what it does not do - quick findings - in a near stock machine it has some advantages - in a race bike that is much more involved they just dyno runs - our 1998 USA national championship road racing buell did it with duel fire

Our Findings Mimick Johns's, and No One yet said there is no Useful Purpose for SingleFire..
I stand by my statement that on the Typical Shovelhead street Bike, I have yet to be proven that Singlefire is Any advantage at all.
The place I disagree with John is Dyno Runs.. I have Yet to See them used as a Real Tool... Don't mean it can't be done, just means most folks running one have an Agenda!!
Now... Put a set of High domed [high compression] pistons you better put Dual Plugs... and If ya Dual Plug... May as well singlefire... it is Easiest, and Most Efficient.
Yea... alot like an Oil Thread, And very Much Influenced by Marketing, and Personal Perceptions...
