Default Shock Covers

I bought shock covers that are supposed to be correct for my bike, but they seem too short. Is this how they are supposed to look? There are longer ones for older bike.

the top shock bolts are the long ones and you have the spacers in them as well - BUT it comes down to the shock straightness as seen top to bottom attachments

Sans 2 wires, one brake line, and a couple of bolts, this is a stock 78 FXE I am putting back together. Rear shock cover is 2-1/2 inches long and covers most of the area that is exposed in your pic. You sure the shocks are mounted properly, both top and bottom?

And another of a finished stock 75 FXE I rescued after a 25 year slumber and managed to keep all original. Again, rear shock cover almost copletely covers the exposed area in your pic.

Yeah, these are only 2" long. The FX parts manual lists these as correct for 71-84, p/n 54704-65. They are for 1970-1984 Big Twin & 1965-1974 Sportster. The longer ones are p/n 54704-75 for 1965-1970 Big Twin & 1975-1978 Sportster. Oh well, time to re-order.

The shock eyes are 14 7/16 to the outsides, top and bottom, so that part is right.

I finally got around to ordering the longer covers - much better, even if they aren't 'correct' in the parts book.
