Default Trans swap

I have a 1982 fx trans flew apart.Will a 1979 fx trans bolt up.

BTW They Rarely "fly apart" without warning...Look, & Listen

Thank you.She warned me.Was coming back from aroad trip i was caught between a rock and a hard place

The "79 trans you are thinking about using, is it the plate type shifter or a ratchet top?
If you have seen the '79 trans you mentioned then you already know.
It's just that in '79 I believe the plate shifter was introduced midyear.
If it is a ratchet top, it would involve a minor shift linkage change.

Don't know about mid-year but, we have a '79 fxs here in the shop... 1200, with cow-pie...BIL has a '79 FLH, cow-pie.
Trying to remember seeing a post '78 with a ratchet top... not that I recall...
But, it is best to know what one owns...

Whart about saving a couple of greenbacks and rebuilding your original?

It was bad im afraid of the case.It didnt break teeth off the gears But on the inside them the brass bushings were split.I hate to junk a set of andrews
