with help from all of you I think I have it figured out. It seems like there will be a little in/out movement of the jackshaft, but I guess that's ok.

 

update -
I installed a clutch shell with ring gear I got off ebay. It looked to be in great shape.
Installed new All ***** Bendix.
Installed new Diamond primary chain.
Installed outer primary with only 1 thrust washer on jackshaft (previously has been 2).

I still have to get it all buttoned up, and install a few more trim items, before I can get it out on the road.
Test cranking with the electric starter sounds good, and looks good from what I can see.
