71 engine shaft

Default 71 engine shaft

I am going to put an open primary on my 71 FXE kick only does anyone know if engine shaft is splined or tapered, I know transmission is tapered??

Do you know anything about open primary systems would you go with primo or BDL?

BDL is making a very nice clutch set up that goes with their belt drives.
I have not put mine to use yet as I am in many pieces. (bike)

it comes down to what your doing - hand clutch requires a good one - foot clutch a cheaper alto works well

what size belt you have in mind I have a used 3 inch we are not using on the one job we are doing that it had

Nope.
A long breaker bar or the impact.
Then there is the argument if you hurt the bearings using one. (impact)

the bearing is not the issue using an impact gun - what actually happens is the shock wave caused by the rattle gun can and does move the position of the tapers in the flywheels - it screws up the wheels true -- the 3 with key ways are not affected ( as much ) as the crank pin one side that does not have a key way

then we come to the AMF idea the sprocket shaft did not need a locking key way - well 1000s of guys will tell you that was not a good idea -- because they experienced the shaft spun in the flywheels - did it come from the rattle gun of popping the clutch both do the same thing
