I kind of sort of perhaps understand Rod ratio- Currently putting halve inch longer rods in this other HIPO engine we have going together here.
The longer the better usually.
longer rod will get you an extended dwell time at TDC - with that you can adjust with compression to take advantage of the longer squish

having said that the most power comes from a short rod as it snaps off the deck and in that the HP / torque goes way up

the 1.87 is a 3 31/32 stroke

Of course, this depends on which engine we are talking about.
The Vtwin is under constant migration of evolution in peoples shops.
As I said in most cases a longer rod is a good thing (rod ratio)
I was referring to this HIPO boxer above.
This boxer I am redoing will benefit from a longer rod, certainly, you are correct about the Vtwin
I prefer over Sq. HD transparently does not.

I was referring to the black burnt look on the sides of the pistions. This bike definitely has a LOT of miles on it. I have spoken with the 3 previous owners, all in this area. One of them even commented "wow! that thing still runnin?"
