Yes...as a result of the frame mounted seat [vs Pogo] the MoCo saw a need for passenger pegs at that location

I recall that tab being used on my '68 for exhaust mounting..
May have come up with another use at some time... IDK

Edit; BTW I'm wondering why two sets of wires on the Brake light switch?????

I subsequently removed those terminated wires....the pic is when it was still on. Just wanted to get the purpose of that tab as I have never seen it used on other shovels.

Understood yer original question... just posing one of my own!
Besides the early [Generator Shovel] exhaust mount... I have used that tab for stuff like Custom Brake light switch...etc... but also may be utilized as Passenger peg mounts... if yer Passenger has fairly long legs...
Later on... that mount disappears... tho I know not when... Kinda like the old FX Chassis was Identical to the FL...even with Board mount... till Later on..

My 76 FLH has the tab pictured above, and nothing attached to it.

Re: frame tab...not sure when HD stopped using it but on my 65 it is used to secure part of the exhaust system.

My 84 FLH has the tab but nothing other than a zip tie was ever secured to it

...and hard to see but the 78 FXE has the tab, but nothing was ver attached to it

First frame below was made in May 1970. Footrest bracket #52688-65 has three mounting holes and one has a bolt in it that lines up with the upright tab welded to the frame.

As I mentioned above, my first H-D was a used 1974 E-Glide and I think my frame had that tab and my footrest bracket had three holes even though page 151 that I posted earlier only shows two mounting holes in the bracket.

And did that hole in the frame tab also accommodate a different type of bracket such as those used on other models—for example, Super Glides?

Next frame is a 75 model with a square one-hole block at the back of the R-H forging. I don’t know the date code but the VIN is 2A36+++H5.

However, I don’t think early-75s had the one-hole block and maybe they were first introduced at some stage during the 1975 model year? They weren’t even required for E-Glides but their frames had them anyway. Bikes such as the FXE used the blocks for passenger pegs.

The one-hole blocks seem to have then continued through 1976 and perhaps even some very early 77s had them? But even if they did, most 77 models have two-hole blocks and they accommodate passenger peg brackets regardless of FLH, FXE etc although the brackets differ depending on series.

^^ I kinda thought that bracket may have been used for Passenger peg mounting... But, Had Not witnessed it...
I have Never seen a Single bolt tab for passenger peg mounting that was Not a Modification... Non O.E,..
Have access to an Unmolested '75 so...gonna take a peek...
Far as I know... all Square swingarms have the Blocks for Passenger pegs BTW...but, were utilized only on FX's by the factory.
