Default Choke Cable

Why is it always the stupid stuff that kicks your butt? I have changed my 76 FLH back to a Keihin butterfly carb from an S&S. I am now trying to figure out the best routing for the choke cable and the placement of the bracket/carb support. The choke cable does not seem to have any logical placement. I mean, it straight down from the dash and has to make a turn almost immediately for the upper frame rail. The bracket is another story. Part of this is my fault for using the thicker isolator from the late 70's, but I'm using the late 70's bracket to match. There are 2 mounting holes in the the upper part of the mount(where it attaches to the underside of the head). If I use 1 hole, the lower mount to the stock air cleaner lines up perfectly, but the choke bracket rubs on the accelerator pump linkage. Here is the bracket. You can see the 2 possible mounting points to the left. The long, slotted mount is the one that lines up best with the air cleaner. If I use the other hole, aside from the air cleaner mount being off, the choke cable gets kicked in front of the engine. This adds 2 more bends to the cable...not a good thing! I know the answer is staring me in the face, but I am just stumped! Any help for me?

Ed... Straight accross from the carb to the Top motor mount... right under the tank...
I'll try to get you a pic... same as the Bendix routing...
I do Not recognize that bracket you show... I don't think...

Doesn't it go through the dash? Seems to me the dash has a marking for "choke".

MOST of the Stock, or Near Stock Carbed Shovels I've Seen go that Way. Little Different IF You are using a Different Carb mind You. On One of my Shovels, when I Put a CV on it, I Ran it to the Left Side to a Small Bracket I Fabbed up. Worked Like a Charm for MANY Years, and the Last Time I seen it, (About 4 or 5 Yrs. Ago) It was Still There & Working OK. When I Put a CV on my 84 FLHX. I'll Probably do the Same to it.......

the cable does run down from the dash and the inside cable is a solid wire some had a solid out side tube no attach as it stayed others had a spiral that get tied off to the carb bracket -

the bracket shown is for the air filter to the front rocker box bottom bolt hole

I think I will go with the FX setup. It just seems a better (simpler...less binding) set-up. I just remembered that the P.O. had a horn mount to the upper mount. I relocated it to the headlight housing so I'm left with an empty hole on the mount.
