LED headlight
There was a post recently about someone else looking for info but I cannot find it in the archives.

It ain't so bad, heck this looks downright civilized compared to the Marine power distribution panels I deal with on a daily basis!!
I did a similar project on my 1991 Sportster. I am not a fan of the headlight and visor setup that HD put on their narrow glide bikes for years. Personal opinion, leave it there. One winter I decided to upgrade my Sporty to a bottom mount headlight. The one I used was the stock light from my 1997 Wide Glide. I drilled a hole in the lower tree, mounts right up like stock. But before that I had to remove the old bucket and the rats nest of wires. As discussed in a previous thread, I started trying to neatly pull all of the connectors apart and pull them out of the bucket. Those connectors are a real PITA. After several frustrating hours, I attacked the headlight bucket in full caveman mode, bucket went in the garbage in about 3 or 4 pieces. I have seen the same happen on Shovels back when, I have never seen one successfully removed in one piece. If I needed to keep it, I probably could have put another full day into it and made it happen, but damn those connectors suck.
To deal with the wires, and something I was doing anyway, I did a 2" tank lift on the bike. This allowed me to relocate the entire mess to under the gas tank, now that I had a large empty tunnel from the lift. Many of the wires just got pulled back and set in place, lots like the idiot lights for the dash had to be disassembled and then the put back together again. Lots of splicing, removing and reinstalling wire tabs, shrink wrap etc. It was winter and I was feeling patient.
When complete, the only wire going to the headlight was for the headlight itself. Now if you were to do something similar, you would have all the room in the world for your LED headlight.
This is my story.
Only pic I have with the bucket still on the bike and the mess of wires, obviously the connectors are huge and take up all available space:
And here is an after shot. You can just see the full compliment of wires coming down behind the instrument cluster and going to the gas tank tunnel. I started with a DK tank lift kit the first season, I didn't like the angle of the tank. I made my own brackets for the front and eliminated the rears to get the correct rake to the tank. Still could be a little higher in the front, but I am calling it good for now.
And a shot from the front of the headlight, good luck and i hope this helps:

I have opted to replace the current halogen bulb with a LED bulb. It's a nice white color and shows up nicely as a DLR, I don't plan on this bike being a night runner.
I did install the OEM style front turn signals but with dual filaments, pulled a feed from the light CB to make the front turn signals function as DLR. I replaced the bulbs with some dual function LEDs, White DLR and amber-off-amber turn signal. Just waiting for my smoked lenses before I post some pics. I think my objective of being seen better during the day will be accomplished with this simple mod.
My new electronic flasher fit nicely where the OEM was and works great. It even worked when I had the incandescent bulbs in the front and LEDs in the rear.
