Default Rear Chain Lube

I searched a while and didn't find much. OK, what rear chain lube are you guys running? My bike is not a hotrod just a 1984 80 inch Shovel with laced wheels.

I used to run PJ-1 and outside of being dirty (constantly splattering the rear wheel) it kept the chain lubed. I put Harley-Davidson Chain and Cable lube on and I don't think it lasts a day? I sprayed the sideplates, both sides, and then the rollers both sides.

What are other's experiences?

I use Maxima chain wax, they sell a kit on Amazon. Once a year during my winter maintenance.

Yeah I was afraid that it wasn't any good. I told my friend that it acts like you need to apply it every ride. Back to PJ-1 for now. I have seen dirt bikes and dual sport bikes with white or blue grease (or wax?) on their chains. The worst thing about PJ-1 is you can say goodbye to your chrome laced wheel as it will soon be black! LOL

ETA: What is the procedure for that amazon kit?

I don't think much of that video. It sounds like an every race / moto adventure deal. They do not come close to properly lubing a chain. The side plates are more critical to the life of the chain than the rollers as far as lubrication. Is the wax done differently? Do you do it that way once a year? If so, I may give it a try, but will concentrate a pit more on the side plates.

I want a lube that will last at least 500 miles if not 1000. PJ-1 will do that, but as I said it slings off all over the rear sprocket and wheel.

There is no fling with the chain wax, once it sets it's there, takes 15 minutes or so, I like to let it set overnight. I do not like the idea of pressure washing the chain as it shows in that other video, can drive "stuff" in under the o-rings. I just rinse it with a garden hose.

I have had good luck with chain wax on all my bikes, once or twice a year. Just go for a ride to warm the chain, spray and wipe with the cleaner, then re-lube.
