Evening. Getting my *** kicked with this new ignition. Ultima kick only, suppose to have been pre programmed. Now I can’t get it to run. Switched from points as it hadn’t been running well. Triple checked the wiring and timing marks. 73’ motor. S&S super e, kick only, three wire hook up, new battery. I’m at a loss. Backfiring out the exhaust and intake? Any thoughts? My thigh is sore as hell form kicking, never had this hard of a time getting one to fire. Thanks.
Usually when you switch from points to electronic you need to change the coil too, from memory from a 5ohm coil to a 3ohm.
Although, if its backfiring out the carbs and zorsts, sounds like the timing is off.
All of the above... and , most important... "Supposed to be pre-programmed" is my Alarm Signal
It Must be Programmed for Zero dead revs to ever kick start...
As an aside... I have had the very best luck Kick starting with Dyna S Dual-Fire... or good old points.. Period...Bar None...
I tend to wonder about the Programming as well. When I had an Ultima Programmed for Zero revs, it was "VERY" touchy! You could not wind the peddle to get a fuller kick. It would fire with the least amount of movement. I learned to just give it a kick wherever the kicker was. I like my points better for kick starting, as they are much more forgiving.
rotate till its at TDC not the advance mark ( place a straw in the front plug hole trans in hi gear no plugs - when centered what ever is in the hole is TDC ) then use a piece of 3/8 hose plugs out - blow into the hose held against the top of the thread - if you hear air escaping its firing front cylinder - if it seemed like your blowing up a ballon then the rear is firing - it will never start if thats the case
then counterclockwise the ignition all the way and turn clockwise with the key on till the light just goes out and lock it in place - now kick it

I can not wrap my head around that at all...and i think yer bassackwards besides,
Just put yer finger on the front spark plug hole..as you roll it over if pressure tries to blow yer finger off the hole... yer on compression...and should be about to fire the front cylinder.. easy ****..
If no pressure..... yer on the Exhaust stroke.....roll er over
Thanks for the reply’s gents. Coil is a 2.8 dynatek. Pulled both plugs, with wires connected & kicked over. Getting good blue spark, & it’s sparking every time I kick the motor. Triple checked tdc. Pulled push rod cover to verify what stroke I was on. Finger over the hole to check for compression stroke too. Advanced it, retarded it, drank beers between both, cursed it and kicked it. My buddy was wondering if perhaps one of the adjustable pushrods were to tight. I’ll try that next.
