Im liking this FXR
There were a handful of FL Police bikes in '85 with Shovel motors,I had an early '84 FXRS Low Glide with the Evo motor but otherwise was same as the '83 Shovel FXRs.
Dry clutch, chain drive etc. Mine was black with gold pinstripes,I met a guy at a friend's house one night with a black and gold pinstripes '84 Lowrider.
Same tank decal same paint job but his tach and speedo were on the tank and mine on the bars with the gas gauge on the tank, his a Shovel solid mount 4 speed and mine of course an Evo rubber mount 5 speed. It was interesting to look at them side by side looking so much alike and yet so different and the same year bikes.
the '85 Shovelhead FLH is a known commodity... created to fulfill a police contract.
Only 1982 and 1983 FXR's had shovelhead engines... the 1984 Harley had an Early and Late production.. on the VIN
Early was Shovelhead Clutch, Late, was the "new" Diaphram Clutch... all 1984 Rubbermounted Harleys were Evo's ... again From the factory.
Yes, the Paint was the same on the black FXR as it was on the 4-speed FXS(B) for 1984... in fact, all rubbermount Harleys from 1984 on were Evo's..
the 4-speed (shovelhead frame) changed to Evo Engine in 1985 (and 1986)
One thing I have Not personally researched is the FXR getting Belt Drive... I always assumed (bad idea) it got the belt at the same time as the "new" diaphram Clutch... mid 1984..
Kind of frustrating as these bikes are getting kinda Old... what was Factory stock...is easily lost... Hell!!!! I was part of the Problem!!!!
