Default Solid Lifters

Holy cow!!!! I put solid lifters in my 1984 FXEF Fat Bob Shovelhead and probably picked up 5-10 Horsepower!! I had a hydraulic insert give out and have had those Solids here forever, so I said what the heck and put them in. This thing is romping!

I'm thinking about putting solids in my Evo.
Why deal with the potential of a collapsed lifter if I don't need to?
Easy to adjust the push rods, no counting involved so works for me

Been running solids in my shovel forever. Love the sound, ease of adjustment, been rock solid for countless miles.

Many years ago in my 1st shovelhead, i pulled the hydraulic ASM from each lifter carrier and loaded a solid plug in each carrier. I think they may have been something cheap I bought from J&P back when everything he sold was on an 8 1/2x 11 printed swap meet handout.

Is that the only solid lifter swap for my '81 or is there something that replaces the lifter carrier too?

The solids I used are not slugs, they have a shape and also have the pocket for the ball end of the pushrods, but are essentially adapters using the same roller tappets. I think I have seen totally different solid lifters that had the adjuster on the lifter and solid pushrods. I actually think my 1967 XLCH Sportster were like that but that is well over 40 years ago and my mind isn't as sharp as it once was if it ever was, LOL. My 1976 FXE had solid lifters, but I don't know anything about them as they were in the bike when I bought it years ago. I only ever adjusted them, never removed them to see what they were.

The lifter inserts look similar to older panhead solid lifters, which were inserts themselves.

Found this online, this is what I remember putting in my '81 FXS. I am asking because I have often thought of doing this to my '81 FXB.

Those look like mine. The older ,original Panhead ones are very similar except the thin section on the pushrod end is sort of curvy, scalloped, a concave shape instead of straight walled.
