Default EVO x Fat Bob ?

.
Hey all.

I've web searched and Wikied, and have no confidence at all that I am anywhere close to knowing.

Can y'all tell me...

What were the years of intersection between the EVO (engine) and the Fat Bob (model).

Much obliged for the help.

James

Didn't they extend the old Shovelhead Fat Bob (old-style swingarm frame, 4-speed, kicker) briefly into the Evo era? Maybe 1984 and 1985?

James, you can investigate queries like this by checking an on-line parts website, while waiting to see if someone can give you a better answer! The first year I can see a FBob is 1985, when the Evo was introduced.

I think the OP's problem might be the way HD referred to different models over the years. Using the list of bikes that can be found on HD's Service Info Portal, this is what I found.

1978 Super Glide FX-1200 or FXE-1200
1979 Super Glide FXEF-80 or FXEF-1200 or FXE-1200
1980 Super Glide FXEF-80 or FXEF-1200 or FXE-1200
1980 Sturgis FXB-1340
1980 Low Rider FXS-80 or FXS-1200
Then if you're looking for a Super Glide for 1981 it will be found in the Dyna family
1981 & 1982 Super Glide FXS or FXEF or FXE or FXB
1983 & 1984 Super Glide FXSB or FXE or FXDG
1985 Super Glide FXSB or FXEF
The next "Super Glide" isn't listed until 1992
1992 Super Glide Custom FXDC
Then no Super Glide in 1993
1994 Super Glide Sport FXDS or Super Glide Convertible FXDS CONV

I'll stop here, but it just is a confusing list especially if you don't know the Letter designation or have the VIN.

The OP was looking for a Fat Bob and the first listing I can find is a
2008 Fat Bob FXDF on HDSIP.

Thumbs up

You are correct for the FXDF which is the new lettering designation for the 2008. The original Fat Bob debuted in 79 as an FXEF.
FXDF = Dyna Fatbob (2008)
FXEF = Electric start Fatbob (1979)
FX = Original Super Glide (1971)
FX actually stood for "Factory Experimental" which was the original Super Glide. The E later was added for electric start (in 75 o 76) but still maintained Super Glide status.
I'm glad this post came up it really got me into the mood to research further into Harley-Davidson and how these chassis came about. Very interesting to find that Willie G wanted something special for 1971 that's when the "Factory Experimental" more well known as the FX Super Glide came around... Makes me feel a lot better about my 77 FXE.......

Further to 98's fine words, I bought a new FX1200 in 1974, when the FXE1200 was also available at extra cost. I didn't buy a kickstart-only Harley again.....

.

Thanks everybody.
I don't feel quite so bad seein's how there was some disagreement/confusion even amongst you guys!

After my OP, I worked LATE into the night last night and what I came up with was 1984 and 1985 (and maybe? 1986? is it?)

So I suppose that would have been then:
- the FXEF Fat Bob in '84 and '85 - and '86?
- then they shelved (killed?) the "Fat Bob" name for, what... 22-ish years
- then revived it in 2008 as the FXDF

Something like that?

So this is sort of disappointing to me.
I was thinking that getting me a ''95-'96-'97-'98-'99 Fat Bob might be the cat's pajamas.

But now... I'm gonna take a deep breath and gather more/different data and formulate a new plan.
And actually, maybe a better plan!
When I get my new thinking settled and focused, I'm likely to post back with a better thought out question.

Thanks for kicking this around for me!

James

I would think the FXR would be the closest to what you are looking for... 96-99 are the best years for the Evo platform....
