Purchased. Appreciate you Old Mago ... thank you ... sprung for the new eBay one .. Man, these aren't cheap ... with free shipping, the new one actually turned out to be a little cheaper for me.
the rocker end caps are real easy to fix, remove them with an allen key & change the 'O' ring & tighten them up & your fixed,
the battery cover is not a great idea or design & are often lost, there are plenty of genuine factory top covers & straps out on ebay for a few Bucks &
batterys a plenty everywhere, if you want genuine they are available at a dealers, but are expensive & nothing special, probably made overseas by a good company & badged as 'HARLEY' your just paying for the Name printed on them,
I personally use Motorbatt AGM batteries now, which I have found to be as good a quality as any,
it depends on how original you want to keep it.really,
I'm not a big dresser fan, but what you have is a bloody nice example, a nice bike for sure,.. I hope you have fun on it which I'm sure you will.
Great tips. Thank you. Appreciated. Yeah, I hear you ... I wasn't a fan of the dressers either ... I was actually debating between an '83 FLHP that was in pristine condition with low miles, but it was a ways away from me, more than double the price, and shipping would've been $2k+ to get to me in the middle of the pacific. And then I looked at this bike in person ... and that was that.
All the reproduction tires with the double whitewall suck as tires, but look the part. Stay far away from Shinko, they look exactly like the Goodyear Speed grips, but they are rolling death. I used Dunlop American Elite with the single thin white wall, looks the part and is an excellent tire for riding your bike.
Good luck, nice looking bike for sure. TLC her up!!!!!
Thank you Architect! Did you ever consider going all back wall? Some threads talk about the problem cleaning the white walls. I think they look cool. Where did you buy yours from? I'll check out the scorpion battery -- thanks.
Nice...she's a beauty indeed. Most of those oil leaks are certainly dried seals/gaskets. Like some say...get the service manual, roll up those sleeves & give this steed some well-deserved TLC.
Right on, Iceman ... I also ordered the Clymers manual too.

You will tire of cleaning the rear whitewall. Front tire is easy. Ive gone to Avon Blackwalls. I think they look good but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
