Default 61 pan/shovel

Going to check out this interesting machine, same owner for last 23 years.

electric and kick start, advertised as modernized 61 Duo glide. Certainly a cobbled together configuration of pan and shovelhead parts.. How can that enclosed primary pictured be bolted up to 61 pan case? No generator but rotor and stator in primary with electric starter. Looks to be a nicely done job, it's close by so I have to take a look.

Not much 61 duo-glide in that bike. It's a 65 up frame. Lets see the left side of the engine up close.

It has a generator, looks like cycle electric and 65 up took the aluminum enclosed primary.

A picture of the vin to see if its a restamp even if the last two number are covered and the belly numbers to see what they say.

Looking at it my first thought is a 66 up gen shovel but without numbers you can't say for sure. The gusset on the left side of the frame was a factory thing in the 70's but added to earlier bikes. Forging numbers on the lower rear frame on both sides will also help.

The front end is a much later version (early 70's) with the banana caliper disk brake. I'd want to know if the engine cases are (belly) numbers matching too. Also look at the speedo face to see id "Harley Davidson" is there, otherwise it's likely an aftermarket speedo and the mileage is useless.

Any receipts the owner may have may also be helpful to understand what it is.

It looks like a "Swap Meet Special". No two parts have ever been together before. Still a great looking ride.

The vin looks good so now you need to know the belly numbers. If they match then you have at the most a 61 bottom end and a title that matches the engine. The rest of the bike is not 61 though, just a transplant into a newer bike. What are they asking for this bike?

From here it looks like a mid 70's Shovel rolling chassis that someone put a 1961 motor into. But first they converted from Panheads to Shovelheads. Transmission end cover is mid 70's as well.

That mix of parts would have to be cheap or I would have to love the overall look to get involved. Way too many variables for my tastes. The only thing that might be from 1961 is the cases, the rest is 70's.

Curious how it is registered since the frame probably has a set of numbers as well, which by the way would tell you the year of the rolling chassis. Disc brakes on both ends so as stated mid 70's or newer.

Not the bike for me.
