Default Possible Purchase

Found this in my area. 83 Shovelhead FXWG. Obveously not stock but, appears to be in good condition. Says runs great. Thinking about an in person look see. Price does not seem to bad but, wanted the pro's opinion. Asking price is $6,500, thinking $6,000 will buy it.

What ya'll think?

Well, just me but the rear sucks, that fender and the shorter shocks blow. I'd bet the tire rubs the inside top of that fender it's slung so low and she will drag on speed bumps and most driveway curbs, you'll have little corning or lean clearance. Getting that rear tire off you'll be having all kinda fun without a cutout lift table. Played this dance with a few set up just like that, it's a popular look for the cholo crowd out here.

Rest of it looks clean, price wise you'll have dig a bit to see what's going in your area. Out here it'd be higher.

I like it. Provided it's mechanically sound, the rear fender and shocks are easily remedied.

If I recall correctly... Belt final?? So, shouldn't Eat the starter drive housing at least!! Just ruin the belt!
Shocks are Cheap...fenders, and Struts??? Not so Much... If the VIN really Is an FXWG, she may be a candidate for Stock.
Them Pipes????? Not for Me... Never...Ever!
Price?? Plenty for around here...Cheap for the "City" They don't make 'em anymore...so ...Gonna Appreciate... even if Slowly!!

Yea, not really a fan of the rear fender but, fenders, shocks and pipes are cheap enough. I can change pretty easily.

As long as the mechanics are sound, I think it may be a go.

I've built several bikes over the years from Triumph to Ironhead to Evo. All just a matter of thought and patients. Oh, and money. LOL I have a habit of sitting and staring at the bikes for hours, imagining different set ups before making a decision. So far, it has worked out pretty well for me.

Examples:

Unfortunately, this is the only picture I have of the Triumph. This was WAY before phone cameras. LOL

The frame tags on the down tube appear to be missing, so I would check the VIN on the engine and frame to verify they match the title etc.

Good luck.

If it is a numbers match, I may take it back to absolute stock. If the numbers don't match, wooo hoooo, wait and see. LOL

The rear does suck, I do have a spare 82 wide glide rear fender if needed.
