Timing plug
Is it worth while to get the clear timing plug for checking the timing on the shovel head ? I still have my timing light from the old days but I tossed my tach dwell meter a few years back. It will be interesting to see where the timing is at on this electronic ignition.
I do Not use 'em.
I set the timing statically...then adjust "by Ear"
My Plates have 3 marks on them...one where Line (or lazy8) is at front of Window, one with Mark in center of window, and one at back of window... I generally end up someplace between rear of window, and middle.. every one Different... No Rubber Stamp here!!!!

When I had my first FX back in 1976 I always used one to time the bike. Can't think of an easier method.
I bought a couple of the clear plug to give it a try but have not tried it yet.
I have received the same response from most people as Marty gave.
Static only for most.
I still plan on giving it a try someday.

I had a 1970 Electra Glide for many years. I just start the bike up pop out the plug and time it was a light. There is not a whole lot of oil that comes out of the hole after startup, so I never used one..

You might want to cut a 50 gallon garbage bag and wear it as well as a gallon bag on the end of the timing light —and of course goggles - and an area that is fine to get wet with oil spray about 6 feet out

If indeed it makes that big of a mess I would assume that clear plug won’t be very clear when covered with oil mist.
If they are made correctly when screwed in it ends up very close to the flywheel and the timing marks are plainly visible with the light. It's MAJIC!
