Default Pushrod Question

Hello, I'm ready to install the pushrods into my 81 shovel engine.
The hydroluc lifters were installed a while ago and blocks torqued down.
since then the lifters have totally collapsed and all oil is out.
Do they need to be primed or can I put the pushrods in and if so...how do I set them up

Thank you

On my 81 the manual says to, with valve closed, adjust pushrod until lifter is fully collapsed and then back off 1 1/2 turns.

one and a half turns is nine flats........ what i do is 8 flats , then tighten, this will give you exactly nine flats.

Of course aftermarket pushrods may have a different thread pitch, so there's that to consider.
