also remember, not all, but still some quality sets of points are coated with a protective film, applyed for long term storage and before use should be washed off with Acetone or they dont work,
again, NOT all points are coated, but some of the quality made ones are,..(generally not ones made in China )
Down the road I just might do that. Right now I'll stick with points. I found the port on my carb that I can tap into for the VOES when the time comes.
I know, but the NAPA by my house doesn't have those in stock and have to order. I used to have a 65 GMC pickup with a straight six and it had the same points in it. The ones in my bike a got from napa ten years ago.
It's good you found the open secondary of the coil, but that doesn't solve the mystery of why the continuity of points, open or closed. Unless there was a grounded wire in the coil.
Well im not total convinced that it is just a bad coil. A new coil is coming today but before I put it on i'm going to have to take the voltmeter and check each and every wire in the ignition circuit. To try and fix a worn out wire and all of a sudden the coil goes out is very suspicious. Like Jethro Gibbs says I don't believe in coincidences. I wonder if I accidentally shorted a wire.
