'81 FXWG jackshaft access?
1981 FXWG stock 4sp - elec and kick
What's the easiest way to remove the starter jackshaft? I need to slip on an OEM spacer that lives on the end of the shaft. I don't want to bend the shift lever I did that once and not long after the flimsy weld broke.
backstory: after servicing the trans, putting everything back together I couldn't find the little spacer for the jackshaft so I made one. I finally got an OEM spacer and it's much smaller. The one I made worked for awhile but now the Bendix is hanging on the ring gear. Everything else in the elec start system is fine I'm sure my too-large spacer is funking things up.
So just wondering what's the best way to get at the jackshaft? Pull the clutch basket? Loosen the oil bag and remove the screw (#15) that fastens the shift lever?
#9 is the spacer I need to install
Thanks for any ideas you can share...

If the fingers are up to it drop the solenoid, the starter and try to work the plunger enough the shaft slips out with a little wrestling and bad language.
If not its pull the oil tank & battery try to get that screw out.
