Wheel Hubs
I have a hub for a 76 FLH that I am rebuilding. The manual talks about checking bearing end play when wheel axle is tightened. My question is this....is there a way to check proper end play without mounting the wheel on the bike? This is my first shovel; my only other bikes are pans with the star hubs andendplaycan be checked without mounting the wheel to the bike. Just trying to avoid needless time if it can be done another way.

I have a set of spacers I made up. cleanthe wheel bearings of all grease. install them in the hub, using the spacer and shims. install the axle through the hub, using what ever spacers you can find (sockets, pipe, ect.) to get the nut to tighten. use a dial ind. add shims as needed ( instead of buying diff. spacers, I buy the longest andtrim iton a lathe)
