ORIGINAL: cripula So what are your plans for the bike? Clean it up and leave it as is as a tribute, restoration, or ?
I plan to clean it up and do basic mods to make it comfortable for me to ride. I hope to keep it as a family heirloom that I will hopefully pass down to my son someday. [sm=biker.gif]
Essentially honoring my dad and riding it like he would....

SD_Rider, I really dont think that bike is that bad at all. I does just look like it needs detailed really well. I have seen much worse old shovels.Have you been able to resolve the carb problems? You may want to consider a S&S Super E carb, you can get them on ebay at not to bad a price. She will REALLY run good with a new/clean carb. Check your gas tanks for rust, they many need to be replaced or sealed. Put a in-line fuel filter on it also.

I was kept busy working on the house and my VW this weekend. (I have a 2yr baja bug project that's nearing completion)
I did pick up a couple Champion RJ12YC plugs. It's what my dad had in there originally. I'm wondering if they have a different depth (or just spark) than the NGKs that I replaced them with. I thought I would replace them, then take her out for a spin to see if she likes them better.
I have another carb. Not sure if it's an S&S...have to look. Dad said that he tried it on there but could never get it running right.
I will make a note about the Super E Carb. No $ right now...with the holidays just passing through.
Keep it as tribute, Your dad did do sensible updates. If it's going to be a regular rider you'll appreciate the disc brakes.
BUT if you've still got all the parts dad took off don't let them get away. If not, it's not too huge a deal, all the parts can be found. Don't ever cut or modify the frame or the engine though. If you're ever forced to have to sell that bike the value is as a 1967 FLH, not a mid 70's FX wannabe.
It looks like you've got an original frame, no VIN boss or #s on the neck. Behind the primary cover, where that big open hole is, there should be a loop on the frame that mounted the brake line junction for the original rear juice drum brake.
The year of the engine is revealed in the first digits stamped into your left side engine case just below the cylinders. Should be 67 FLH XXXX. It will be the year you'll be registered as.
