1981 FXS- Opinions
Below is a link with a few pics listed in photobucket, these aresome pics of my 1981 FXS Lowrider that I am about to place on the market to sell. What I am wanting to know from you guys is what is a fair price for this bike?
A little history about the bike. My brother bought this bike new in 1981. I bought it from him in 1994 with 7,000 miles on it. The bike now has 31,000 original miles. I know the history of this bike and it has been well maintaned it's entire life... the bike has never hit the ground. I had the top end rebuilt about 6,000 miles ago. The bike was bored .010 to clean up the cylinders, Harley pistons, Sifton cam, Crane Hi-4 Single Fire Ignition and S&S Super E. All the hoses and cables are stainless and as you can see from the pictures every part, bracket, bolt and nut has been chromed on this bike. I changed all the fluids last weekend, spark plugs, new battery, both tires are in good shape- this bike is ready to get on and ride. It doesn't smoke, have any leaks around the engine and the bike is mechanically in excellent shape. I have most all of the original parts and they will also go with the bike including the seat, carb, air cleaner, front fender, cam and assorted other goodies.
Would you take a look at the pictures and give me some ideas on what you think this bike will bring? Heck, you could even make me an offer if you were interested. I live in Kemp, TX that is about 50 miles south of Dallas.
Thanks for your input.

Nice looking shovel.
Just my opinion. I watch the prices on older stock shovels.
In my area as it sits now $6,000.00 if your lucky. You have
a good history on the bike. The shovels, that get the highest
price, are the ones closest to stock. If I were you, I would
include pictures of what ever original parts I had, fenders etc.
I could be wrong on what I think. My 80 is now 100% stock
I even found a set of the 1980 original exhaust. I may try to
sell it in 2010, it will be 30 years old. If I can't get 10,000 to
12,000 I will keep it and wait for 2020
Good luck I hope you get a good price. Please post the results
of your sale when it is over.

green1340,
I like either keep it because you know the history and buy another one or if you have to absolutely sell it,7-8000$ is fair. Utilize ebay, craigs list. The bike looks outstanding.
I have had a 1983 shovel for 25 years and while other bikes I've owned have come and gone I've kept that one and do not regret it. I still enjoy riding it and because I've had it since new I am pretty familiar with it.

I bought my `79 for $5500 last year and REALLY thought that was a steal. I agree with everyone else. For what you've got there, keep it. It IS a true classic. Here's the pricing off of NADA:

Excellent:
$11,850
Very Good:
$8,325
Good:
$6,275
Fair:

Great looking shovel. I have a 81 that I am trying to get a odometer **** to replace the one that recently vibrated off. Harley said that the part is obsolete now. Mine does not look as good as yours does and I would not take less than 6 for it. As the others have posted worth more but in this economy who knows! Good luck
