1983 FXDG Disc Glide Refurbish Thread
I have been on the board for a few weeks and have gotten some great help on this bike from many people here. Thanks crip, johnb, 05fatty, sqdeal, mega, fret, mrbar, et al.
I just started the thread linked below in the Classic forum to show the progress on the DG as we go along. If anyone's interested the link is:

Did the DG come with the sissy bar? I don't recall.
Until then, I wanna get it lookin mostly correct with a few changes to suit taste and functionality. In the meantime, I'm tracking down parts special to the bike and either using them or stashing them depending on rarity and exposure to damage.
Those tank decals are 100% correct, Thank you Crip and JohnB.
Actually, the braided lines and handlebar risers are correct for this bike. Those are new lines with a finer braid than the originals, but those are the original risers. The throw-over saddlebag mounts stay for now, b/c I need to carry sh#t and b/c I dig the "steelhorse" look it gives the bike. That sissy bar was a gimme from a bud who had it on his Sporty. If you look close you'll see it sits about four inches further back than an original sissy bar which I like. Makes the bike look longer and lower than a factory bar would. The DG did come with a bar and a special leather pouch on the bar. I don't have the bar but I do have the original pouch.
The paint is in the original scheme but slightly different shades. Couldn't get a code or chip so got as close as I could by matching the sticker on the belt guard.
Anyway, there are a few other things not dead original, but the overall theme is to make look as close as possible. I'll fill in more detail as I post updates.

Easy to find if you ever want 'em. Same for the sissy bar, they crop up at swap meets fairly regularly - the pouch would be way harder to find. It's nice when you're not in a hurry - you can just keep your eyes open and grab bits and pieces as they appear. You shouldn't have a problem accumulating everything by 2017

and I STILL want to know what an Anerican is...

Thanks for link, cool pics. That article is from the Winter 83 issue of The Enthusiatst. I have a copy.
I see what you mean about the risers, you may be right. But, I've noticed that some things are not consistent from bike to bike. Look at the holes cross-drilled in the rotors on the two bikes in the link you sent me. Both are cross-drilled, but in a different pattern. Don't know if it means anything.
But, like you said, straight risers aren't hard to find. I'm very fortunate that my bike came with what appear to be the original leather pouches.Awright, I guess I fall into that same narrow veiw as all US natives, American=US citizen.
I know it has a broader meaning though. So, what is an AMERICAN to you, Crip?

Get those emblems! And if you don't mind, toss up a better pic of your handlebar risers.
