Default stock clutch

hi, im using a stock clutch with kevlar pads on a stock 74 in motor. i want to shut off my dripper, and the return lines from the primary. the pads are wet/ or dry pads, so my question is if i soak my pads in primary fluid and fill the primary with primary fluid will my clutch slip? what should i do? thanks for the info

Since the clutch is a wet/dry unit, just add enough ATF to barely touch the bottom of the clutch shell when the bike is on the kick stand. The ATF works quite well with BT clutches, and lubes the primary chain in a most excellent manner!

what happens is if you don't put enough primary fluid in you will melt your chain adjuster.. if you put the amount you need to keep the primary properly adjusted and lubed you will have slippage.

where you get the most slippage of course is the top-end. also remember if you are doing this conversion to vent the inner primary to a check-valve or filter....

I can only recommend a primo/rivera or scorpion type clutch set up. do some research here and you will find many opinions and experience with these units right here.... one of the better features is they can be set-up with the inner hub to mate up with the early key-way mainshaft. these are drop in complete units that will give you a late style diaphram clutch system and then you just seal the **** out of your primary and fill it up with a quart of fluid.

let me know if this helped you out at all -

I got tired of dealin with the leaks after sealin my 71 FL and went Primo 11 mm belt drive kit. I've put about 6000 miles on it now with no troubles.
Had the same set up on another shovel I sold sederal years ago. I ran it for over 25000 miles with no problems. Kept enclosed primary but vented the inner primary where you couldn't see it and added spacers under the derby and inspection covers for more venting.
My .01cent worth....

Get rid of the old set-up.They arent worth the room they take up on a decent Harley Davidson and do it right.Go with an S&S oil pump and a rivera pro clutch....take it from there.

Your clutch plates are designed to run in an oil mist environment - not an oil bath. If you get too much oil on the friction plates then yes, they will slip.

I've never had a problem with Barnett plates slipping with just enough oil to touch the clutch basket when on the sidestand as mentioned above. I've never burned up a tensioner shoe either.
