Default Update on 83 FXE Starter

I while back I posted a thread concerning the none starting issues with my recently rebuilt bike. Thinking I was younger than I really am, I went kick start only. I didn't have a problem with that except the bike would only start after I kicked myself into a slather. I listened to some of the advice given here, and since the shop could not explain why it wouldn't start, I ended up installing a starter. When I rebuilt the bike I left the harness intact just in case I wanted to put a starter back on. Made the whole process much easier. I was going to get an All ***** starter, but they were back ordered, so I picked up an Ultima starter instead. It basically has the same specs as the All *****, but it was about 50.00 cheaper. The bike starts like a new one, like it is supposed to.

I put this bike back on the road the 1st of Nov. 07'. I had 2800 miles on it before the end of November. It had to go back to the shop to replace the front cylinder base gasket, and to replace the broken kick shaft. I got the bike back last Saturday afternoon, and after putting the tanks back on, plus a few other odds and ends it's back on the road. I only had the chance to ride twice this week, but have already passed 3500 miles. What a pleasure!

I might mention that before installing the starter, I sheared the k/s key on the mainshaft twice, and snapped the end off of the k/s shaft. It's only an 88" stroker, but it's a hot rod.

Good to hear you got it done. A lot of guys cut their primaries down in the old days making it alot harder to put back to electrics.
