Terry66flh I have found that the original decals are hard and pricey to come by. I may have an extra decal for the chain gard but am still waiting. As for the paint it's a merry mix up and some good pics really help. Just to give you an idea, wrinkle finish blk, satin blk, high gloss blk you will need all three in VHT 350 degree so it will take the high heat. Send me your email address and I will send some pic's that may help you out.

I am restoring an fxb too, I found all decals on ebay, they were pricey and rare... i am having problem with sissybar mounting plates... Are they the same brackets used for Fxwg? And are they mounted ON the fender mounting plates ore WITHOUT them? Between their holes u see the metal of the fender plates or the black of the fender? i have many pictures but not sure about it.....

Good Morning Cippy1967
yes you do mount the sissy bar mounting plates too the fender supports, the two black areas that you see are not the fender but painted (on mine) on the sissy bar mounts. The part No, is 52743-79A fits 1979 - 1981 FXS, FXS-80, FXB. 52743-82 IS THE SAME PART. What I find real handy is the 1971 to 1984 parts catalog for FX models part No. 99455-83C and can be had at J&P Cycle part No.902-921 for $47.99 and a service manual part No. 99482-84 J&P,s part No. 902-005 for $59.99 These will become your bible for parts and where and how they go together. I bought mine in 4 large fish tubs the only thing still intact was the motor. A lot of work and research, but lets not forget the friends, beer drinking and all the laughs that go with, makes it all worth while besides what else are you going to do with 4 feet of snow outside

Ciao Jim, thx for infos... So the fender (between the holes of the mounting brackets) is black painted.... That was the thing I cud not understand from brochures and pics...
I l, post some pics of the work I am doing on my FXB, the bike was in bad shape when I bought it, the previous owner chromed several parts and so I had to restore all pieces in the original black b4 starting the reassembly work... thx god the engine worked perfectly, so it is only a maquillage job...
I totally agree with u, I love the nights spent mounting bikes, restoring them or simply talking about engines, a slice of cake, a bottle of wine, the fog outside....
Last winter I spent 3 months mounting a springer front end for my Night Train (86 pieces!!) as I bought it screw by screw from US (definately cheaper than the complete fork from an italian dealer) and in the past I restored my XLCR (It took 3 years from the first time I saw it on internet in Alabama to the day I cud ride it in italy fully restored)...

I got mine from here. http://www.jimsharley-davidson.com/ They have old repop decals. Mine were right on as I have the originals to compare them to.
Call and ask for the parts dept. Don't know what all they got but they are the only one I found to have mine. Mine were about 175.00 for all 6 pieces.
