OK, I have search the forums for this and could only come up with Fuel Injection garbage. <weak>
Here's the deal, I have for a while had some popping on decel, particularly when shifting up. Releasing the throttle and pulling the clutch in at the same time.
Also in 1st, and 2nd (maybe in 3-5 also but I cant tell) when at a constant throttle (like when I try to drive at 15mph steadily on the Navy base) I hear popping and can feel the engine "cut out" when it pops. What it feels like is similar to a quick loss of gas and then right back on the gas and I mean very quick...but often. potato potato potato POP potato potato potato potato POP potato potato potato potato potato potato POP
I have straight pipes and a Super E carb. Is this as easy as pulling the plugs and "reading" them? I am assuming that I am running too rich/lean.
most of the time backfire on decel is an exhaust leak, but what you are describing is more like a lean misfire. I would check your intake manifold for leaks, and you might want to try just for S&G's opening up the idle mixture a turn. if that helps, try running a bit richer pilot jet. open pipe's can be a little bit hard to tune.

The bike has been like this since I bought it in the spring. I am going to look for leaks at the exhaust and the intake manifold. If that checks out fine, then enriching slightly to see if that helps. if not then larger pilot jet since this happens 1/4 throttle or less when driving steady speed in low gears.
If I were you, i'd take the carb off and clean it out before I did anything. All it would take is for a piece of crud to be in the pilot jet. Especially since you just bought it. At the same time, check to see what size jets you are running.

+1
Don't know if it is the chitty gas we get now days, but dealt with more carb probs on scoots this year, than the last 3 or 4 yrs combined. Pull the bowls, spray carb cleaner thru jets, reassemble, and they run fine.
But sounds like you are heading in that direction, so, good luck.
