Default 64 generator

Hey guys,
I have a 64FL with shovel heads and old panhead bottom. I am only pushing about 12.7V at speed. I am thinking about replacing my generator but most 12V say 65-69. Will this fit on my bike? Is this what was used when it was upgraded from 6V to 12V back in the day? 65-69 are a dime a dozen, but finding a 64 12v is tough.

this might work, if you are running kick only.

I am running kick only. this would work, but i am also trying to avoid $350. There are generators for 65-69 for as little as $150, I am just not sure if they will fit. How different would a 65 be from a 64 when Harley made generator shovels until 66?

Take a look here, http://www.cycleelectricinc.com/ they have a lot of good info and make one for the 36 to 64 models in 12 volt.

What ! the breaks for the generators are 30-57 used a three brush generator up until 1965 were 6 volt 1965 to 1969 were 12 volt. that is all the difference. the pre 65 generators have been rewired and still have the old numbers that is why they are more expensive.
