Brothers, I could use a little help here.
I took my bike to a Milwaukee, WI Bike shop and he said a Rev-tech transmission with a Kick-start and 5-speed would run me $2,399. My case is cracked and the rubber bushing has also been welded together.
I just bought the bike and am low on funds so my boss might give me a payroll advance but this is a little more than I can cough up right now, I mean I am really choking on this dollar figure.
Can anyone steer me to a bolt in tranny for a '72 shovel-header that is a little easier to swallow? Can I order one for myself to avoid their greedy mark-up?
Riding days are precious and short, please )o:
I am not sure what you mean by "rubber bushing", but if everything else besides the case on yours is good, you can buy an aftermarket case for your bike for around 300. If you buy the case and a complete rebuild kit, like the one from Jims, you will have around 500 in parts. The labor should be around 400 to remove yours, swap the parts and reinstall it. It isn't all that hard to do the job yourself. Get a manual and have a look to see if you would be comfortable attempting it. Good luck. PS..I have seen complete 4 speeds on ebay for less than 600.
