You will seriously regret selling it. Don't do it if you don't absolutely have to.

Why? That old shovel is some of the best iron Harley ever made. Keep it, you'll regret selling it down the road. JMHO, YMMV, etc.

I have to really think about it - I have to admit I do like the way the seat vibrates

I know the problem. I have had the same '80 Shovel for 22 years. Most (almost all) my ridin' buddies have much newer, smoother, and faster HDs. I can ride the Shovel fast but it protests. Things happen real fast on a Shovel at 80 mph. Most don't like riding slower but they don't want to leave anyone behind and stretch the group.
If the Shovel has sentimental value keep it and buy newer if you are able. If you can't have two bikes, do some soul searching.
Since I can have two or more bikes I 'm keeping my Shovel. It is retired from long distance work. I making a tourer out of my '07 Street Bob for that.

Seriously, you need to keep that bike. right now the market sucks, 5 years ago you could've gotten 10k for it. right now you're lucky if you get 5. hold on to it for a couple years after the economy recovers completely and get a decent amount for it if you must sell.
