It dies!!
Warms up great in neutral, but when I put her in gear she dies. I know it's a clutch adjustment issue, I already have my 1/2 inch clearance at the starter....and I've tried adjusting her from the derby cover AND the cable sleeve by the solonoid. My question is this:
Do I need more tension on my cable or more slack? Why is it dying everytime I put it in gear?

More tension will make the clutch dissengage more. There should be about 1/16" free play at the handle for a tight clutch feel. If you don't have the free play, the clutch pushrod will drag on the throw out bearing. Are the plates moving free on the clutch hub studs? Is the friction plate on the clutch hub in good shape? Is this primary chain too tight? Lots of things go into making a clutch work right.

This could be any number of things. Cable adjustment,clutch spring tention or worn out clutches. The best way I've found is to follow the H-D shop manual. If you have one. If you've made all they adjustments and it stills dies,check the thowout bearing and rod!

Good point,the throw out brg rod wears once throwout brg fails,everything will spin and tip of rod will wear out.Also make sure you have the right length rod.Aftermarket throwout brgs take a different rod and actuating arm.I think there is at least two lengths.Put one of those ramjet clutch fixes in her.The cheapest works as well as higher dollar ones.This will fix the famous clutch drag felt at red lights and will fix the drag.Cable operated doesnt release clutch pack as well as foot clutch,so cable adjustment has got to be on the money.
