Stl Shovel;
A 5 speed has a 1 to 1 top gear. There isn't an over drive. Now, there are over-drives for 4 speeds..That would give you a pretty high top gear. If it ends up being too high then you could play with your sprokets. The 5 speed is pretty klunky too plus an extra shift getting up to speed...I had one for a couple of years and re-installed my ratchet top 4 speed. Much better trans for me..(Everyone has their opinion and I respect that..Hawgley

Easy. Bigger tranny sprocket and smaller rear wheel sprocket. The cheapest way to start is to put a 48 tooth in place of the stock 51 tooth on the rear wheel. If that doesn't do it for you, then rip the inner/outer primary off and stick a 23, 24, or 25 tooth sprocket on the tranny. You oughtta be changing the sprockets at least every two drive chains, anyway.

If you go to a 24t or 25t tranny sprocket, look into making or buying a piece to protect the inner primary and starter stuff from the inevitable chain slapping.

I switched from the 51 to a 49 tooth rear sprocket and it made quite a difference. I can keep up with everyone now!

48 may be a bit much but to each his own.

Of course if you look at your speedo it will be off about 5 mph!
