Default HEAD TORQUE

New S&S head were installed about 3000K ago by the original owner. I think I should re-torque them.

I am assuming the head bolts are torqued from the bottom of the head. Is this true?
If it is, my torque wrench will not fit.

How do you re- torque the heads?

I would think that after 3000 miles without a leak, they should be OK. It is pretty hard to get to some of the head bolts when the engine is in the frame. I have lots of wrenchs that I have modified to fit the hard to get bolts. Is is also pretty hard to use a TW on some of them. I know it's not the "correct" way to torque them, but I go by feel to check them. Good and tight. After initial start up and break in, I go over the bolts just to be sure. If you want to give them a check, just use a 7/16" 12 sided wrench or socket on a breaker bar. The S&S head bolts are 7/16, the standard HD ones are 9/16 sizes.
Yes, they are torqued from the bottom. Good luck....TW

Well they are not leaking, so I guess I'll leave well enough alone.
Thanx for the info.
