Thanks for the help i had old harley man took head to him an he fill heads with starter fluid or brake cleaner whatever he used and turned back upright and none of fluid came back past valve seats said that was good way to check seat should but guess that is out the window if it is heating up then passn by i guess best way too determine if seals or valves is what twisted suggested open to all opinions
The lighter fluid trick is just to tell if the valve and seat have a good seal , won't tell you anything about the guides & seals . You can turn the head and fill the port up around the guide and watch for drips around the valve springs but the oil pushing past usually comes out after it gets hot , not something I recommend one does with flammables .
Thought I did explain to how check for the oil getting past the guides in the other other thread , only way your going to find the problem is do the normal diagnostic checks every old mechanic does . Don't keep hunting for an answer you want to hear it could cost you a lot of money and grief in the long run . Advice is free man take it or leave it , been dicking with shovelheads for 35 yrs I specialize in them I still ride one daily .
