I have 78 shovelhead talk to guy in bs chat told me to repost thread have 1250 mile on complete top end rebuild and i have always had to drive 150 mile and replace a spark plug on front cylinder so i have torn down and had cylinder honed and found bad oil ring so replace rings to .030 over on the .020 over S&S pistons i am running and had machinist check head put all back together and same **** i am running S&S super E and have tried different oiling setup where they r feed seperate and reversion cones has to b oil coming by cause after 150 mile give or take plug is fouled after warm up rpm comes down and smoke starts coming by and keeps going at idle not to mention if i run it hard blows out head gasket i have been told it has mild cam and that it is 74ci with 80ci heads i have been tryn to get it right for a year now i am pretty mechanically inclined but i am stumped please help thanks

I really want all input from all the old shovelheads on this site i would appreciate any input hope to have this bike for a while

O.K. Do you have a manual for this bike? Have you read it?

Dont need manual to fix front cylinder passn oil by need someone with some better input than myself

Saw that Twizted talked about oil leaking past your seals and guides on your other post and that is the first thing that came to mind after you talked about what you had done to try and correct the problem...

Thanks for the help i had old harley man took head to him an he fill heads with starter fluid or brake cleaner whatever he used and turned back upright and none of fluid came back past valve seats said that was good way to check seat should but guess that is out the window if it is heating up then passn by i guess best way too determine if seals or valves is what twisted suggested open to all opinions

not a problem. Keep us posted on the progress...or lack of. Lots of peeps here with ideas. We are not all always right but it seems to keep the shovels on the road
