Default Shovel noise

Was just wondering why the valvetrain on a Shovel is so noisy? Is it the design and will the evo lifter conversion make it quiter?

For some reason my '77 was always noisy, no matter how I adjusted everything, other than setting the valve lash very tight. Don't know about the "EVO conversion", didn't try that. I just got used to it.

I was talking to my local Indy and he says if the tolerances between the spacer and the rocker arm are more than .008" the noise will be greater, but if you get the tolerance down to .004" it will eliminate alot of the noise. It makes alot of sense to me because that would give the rocker arm less freeplay to slap against the spacer creating less noise. I am in the process of taking the bike down for paint and top end work, I plan on checking this tolerance closely and setting it back to .004", I'll let ya know how it turns out and if there is any noticeable difference.
