Default leaking sprocket shaft bearing insert???

Ijust replaced my sprocket shaft seal and spacer. (79 flh) it is leaking again, as soon as i started it. from furthur investigation, it seems that oftenlate cone shovel sproket shaft bearing inserts will leak between the bearing insert and the left case it is pressed into at the factory. only way to usually fix it is to buy a new left case and machine it to fit the right case. seems to me that it could be welded or that something like jb-weld or PC-7 could be put on it. im gonna try it next time i take the inner primary off. has anyone else had any experiance with this problem???? please tell me all you know...

I haven't had it, but we're waiting on you to try a fix!

I just replaced the seal and spacer on my Evo and am hoping I won't have a similar/same problem.

Clean the area till it is spotless with Brake Cleaner. Apply Loctite 290 to it, let it cure over night. reapply loctite 290 and let it cure for the second night. Reassemble and ride. Will not work if the insert is very loose, but it will work if the insert only loosens when the aluminum case gets hot and expands. Guys with late 80's early 90's evo's did this alot.

Are you saying to apply the 290 with the seal & space out, reinstalling it after the stuff has cured, or can it be done with the seal in place?

Use the Loctite 290 to fill in the gap of the loose press fit of the steel insert to the left side engine case. Then reinstall a new seal and spacer.

The 290 is made for press fits and will fill the gaps between the steel and the aluminum as it expands at different rates when it heats up, (also does a damn good job of holding woodruff keys on shafts too).
