I haven't been on or worked on a shovel since the late 70's. Got a bro that's in a bind and I'm going to buy his 76 FLH that's been sit'n for a few yrs. He said it was running when he last parked it but was hard to get into 3rd gear. I was wondering if the service and parts manuals are still available or are they just one of those items you have to search out. Also, any advice would be appreciated. I'm planning on making this a ride'n bike, not a show bike. It's in pretty rough looking shape but that's ok. Can't give much more info than that right now. I actually want have it in my posession until next month.
Thanks

The first thing I would check concerning the 3rd gear problem would be the shifting forks. They can crack or break and make it very hard or even impossible to get in gear. You should be able to find a decent service manual without to much trouble.

If its "cracked" it may go into one and not the other. Been there done that.

thanks for the replies. it's gonna be middle of feb before I can get it to the house and give it a good eval. I'll probably be inquiring more as the riding season approaches. got a service and parts manual on order. going to let my son do the wrenching.
