I have a 1983 FLT. I did a fresh top end and put a mild street cam in. She runs terrific, but the battery needs replaced and I'm debating putting in one of those newer lightweight, heavy cranking amp gel batteries. Not ony do they last onger, but it may have a little more oomph to turn her over (Higher lobed cam and 60 wt oil).
I have no experience with these, but thought the concept sounds great and starting her may make me cringe less if I knew it was effortless for her to start......that original style battery always seemed kind of weak to me.
Any input or suggestions on a battery upgrade would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
these last me over 4 years and come with a wiring harness for a battery tender/charger -- http://www.ebay.com/itm/DRAG-SPECIAL...182585?vxp=mtr -- my bike has a super high cranking compression cam leinweber L3S -- even on a freezing cold day it spins my all ***** starter like a air starter -- the stock harley starters are JUNK --
yeah andrews cam-- what one? A2? -- not fond of andrews cams -- oh they make manifold vacumme but have no top end - lobes were out fast -- and the high lift wears the valves and guides --
Think I may try one of those batteries out myself, prob could use a better starter too. My old 79FLH has had quite a bit of engine work done to her and needs some more "oomph" when starting
go to autozone -- buy battery cables from them. they are 100% copper -- if you buy an ALLBALLS starter you need to clearance the silver end cap to fit a tad loser. if not the first time you try to remove it it will pull it apart andthe brushes will pop out -- cat the "O" rings with electric grease -- make sure you put a blob of grease on the starter gear -- you can buy a small starter relay from radio shack -- its best to keep the sarter button on the handle bars anything else or any place else is asking for trouble -- hees a pic of the cables --
