I have a 1983 fxrs ,after changing the oil/filter I poped a oil line under the starter,so I took off the starter to fix it ..now I have no spark in the plugs..put on a new coil still no spark..any thoughts on this? Thanks
Bob, I'm totally a newbie to the Shovelhead scene but I was an industrial electrician for most of my working life. Hopefully someone more knowledgable than myself will chime in but best advice I can offer is to backtrack, check everything you touched and as always check fuses. It usually comes down to something simple. Do you have power to things like the ignition switch and lights and still no spark? at least this will give you a bump back to the top..good luck man!

Bob, I looked at my service manual and it says either ignition coil, ignition module(points or whatever) or out of timing really bad...I'm sure there are other causes..
there are gurus in here that know more than moi.. gives you a bump back to the top..
FXR needs a dedicated heavy ground to the starter or the trans case since it's all rubber mounted . I'd check all ground's and battery cable connections first then see if you missed one of the smaller multi wire connectors somewhere before you start replacing hard parts or screwing with the ignition system .
It was working something happened , then it wasn't what did you do in between the 2 ? That's always the place to start trouble shooting

i think you nailed it twist -- the FXR series bikes all of them have a web ground strap under the bike that attaches the frame to the center of the primary and that bolt is at the bottom -- rubber mount motors have to have a ground from frame to the motor to run, check that i have seen that happen many times -- jz
