I have an 81 Wide Glide with the cow pie transmission. The transmission is not setup for the speedometer drive (no hole). I have dual front disc brakes so I don't think I can use a front wheel speedometer drive there. What other options are available to get a speedometer working on it? All suggestions are welcome as I have run out of ideas.
Thanks,
Oldsarge29
I have a narrow glide dual disc with a front wheel drive speedo. You need to have a 2:1 speedo, I think trans drives are 1:1. Usually the drive takes the place of a spacer on the front axle.
To get the correct readings with my 21 inch front wheel, I understand that I need the 2240:60 setup. The drive that I bought that was advertised to fit does not fit. It is too thick (wide) to work on my wide glide dual disc front end.
they make a rear wheel drive spedo unit for choppers / bobbers that have an after market springer on a FXST or no front brake for that clean look as you hit the car in front of you --- - it comes with spacers and the parts to convert i have put them on in the past SORRY cant remember what side they attach -- i think maybe mid usa or drag has them --- jz
That was my plan but the drive unit is too wide (thick) to fit between the fork leg and the wheel. I need a drive unit that is roughly .625 inches wide to fit where the spaces is now. I have not found one like that yet.
