I know the pages from the Electra Glide/Super Glide 1972 owners manual can be some what controversial. If you look at an original, not a restored 1972 FX's, you'll notice the owners manual is pretty accurate. The biggest mistake when someone restores a 71 or 72 FX, they have the wrong speedo and dash (ignition name plate).

Also, "Parking Lights", 1968 was the first it appeared on the dash of HD's big twins.

Yep, that's just what ***** G did, put a sportster front end on a FLH.
FX= FLH from the neck back, X=XLCH front end.

Factory eXperimental is where FX came from.

Only the black 1972 FX with the "Sparkling America" decals (red, white and blue), whether it had the fiberglass boattail or metal rear fender were called "Midnight Express". Any other color 1972 FX whether it had the fiberglass boattail or metal rear fender were called "The Night Train", same as the 1971 FX's.

That's how I remember it.

Good one. I bought a new 72 in 72, black midnight express, I still have it. It is kick start, after 43 years of kicking it, my knee is shot. Best thing I ever did was had a local shop change out the tractor gears it came with, the shift from 1st to second was never smooth, even when new. Made a huge difference. I also swapped out the hydraulic lifters with a set of solids with rollers. That stopped it from floating out over 100, but noisy...oh well. Good luck.
