Ss carb came with bike. Bought it this winter. Hasent run right since ive had it.
If I open up the throttle it sounds like fireworks pop pop pop. Dont know about how the mech has the carb set. He did the work and after he was done it ran perfect for about 2 days then back to ****. Ill find out the jet size on carb.
depending on how far you ride, it appears to me that two days is what it took to re-foul the plugs. as stated above, check for oil and carb too rich. good advice about bringing another guy with you to the shop
large cam-- yeah that tells a lot-- I just did one where the dude put a cam for a 93" in a stock 74 yeah black pipes and a real dog -- he also had it wayyy over geared ..
whats the engine? 74" or 80" also whats your altitude where you live?? above 5000??
i had the same problem once. 72 flh,s&s carb, open pipes. was caused by an intake valve not sealing. could be lots of things.. running way too rich for whatever reason.
Thats part of my problem. The info is lacking and i dont know size or whats in the motor. I was told it has a stroker kit. But Im having my guy tear it back down this winter and see whats in it and repair whats needing. The top was done not the bottom.
like the vin# wont tell the engine size or removing the timing plug to look for flywheel #'s a simple have someone look at it -- what did you do take a pic of some bike and say its yours?
Got my title out today. Its The vin is 2f so when i looked up what that means it says its a FXS 1200. The engine is bored out but dont know what cc they do that too. Anyone help on that? Would guess they bore it out as big as they can. Last 2 on vin is H8 and looks like that is 1978. Has inch and 3/4 drag pipes. Didnt find out the size of jets on carb.
Whats the difference from a fx and a fxs?
Title also says its a lowrider

FX is any big twin with sportster front end, known as a super glide. FXS Low Rider is a ***** G special styling edition. FXE and FXEF are two other versions of the super glide. Different tanks, gauges and exhaust combinations. 35 years later, anything could have been changed, though. e.g. my FXS 1200 has an FXE tank and aftermarket exhaust.
Does motor have solid lifters? Might be adjusted too tight and when warm not allowing valves to seat fully.
A shovel motor grows upwards of .080" and more as it heats up so you loose lift not get tighter . Too tight on the pushrods the bike would be farting out the carb and backfiring as you try to start it with solids .
